The ‘E-Invoicing Exchange Summit Asia Pacific’, held in Malaysia from November 25 to 27, 2024, brought together industry leaders, regulators, and technology experts to discuss the current and future trends, adoption, and regulations of e-Invoicing. Among the attendees was Sam Hassan, Chief Technology Officer of Link4, where he engaged with global stakeholders such as OpenPeppol, the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Singapore’s IMDA, the Digital Business Networks Alliance, Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment (MBIE), Global Exchange Network Association (GENA) and with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).
“This summit was a vital opportunity to collaborate with leading organisations shaping the global e-Invoicing ecosystem. It provided valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities in fostering interoperability and advancing digital transformation across the Asia-Pacific region,” Hassan stated.
A major focus of the summit was on the upcoming regulatory milestones in the region, including:
- New Zealand’s e-Invoicing roadmap for 2025, designed to accelerate payment processes and streamline operations within government departments.
- Singapore’s “Five Corner” model, to be introduced by IMDA and IRAS in 2025, which will include new reporting requirements for B2B and non-e-Invoice data to enhance compliance and strengthen its digital economy.
The discussions also explored Malaysia’s integration of e-Invoicing into its tax framework and the role of Peppol in driving international interoperability.
Insights Shared at the Malaysia Budget 2025 Seminar
Hassan also participated as a speaker at the Malaysia Budget 2025 Seminar, hosted by the Tax Accountant Association of Malaysia and the Malaysian Institute of Accountants. During his session, he provided practical guidance on leveraging e-Invoicing and emerging technologies to prepare businesses for the future. Key topics included:
